Beautiful Newborn Girl | Durham NC Newborn Photographer

I was so excited for the opportunity to photograph sweet baby Amelia before her parents left North Carolina to begin their new life out West. Her daddy recently finished school, and his new job required them to move out of state. It was such a privilege to create these portraits for her family before they left.

Amelia’s parents brought her to my studio in Durham for her very first portrait session. She was having “one of those evenings” and wasn’t particularly keen on the idea of falling asleep, so there was a lot of feeding and cuddling taking place between poses.

I’m actually in love with this image we captured while she was still awake – it seems to me like she has so much to say with those piercing eyes of hers. It makes me wonder what she would say if she were able to speak – I can imagine she would have a LOT to say.

I totally love her little foot peeking out of the blanket in this image.

Family Portrait Session | Raleigh Family Photographer

Janeal has been one of my good friends for almost as long as I can remember. When I was 8 years old, my family moved from Nevada to Arizona. Janeal and I met when our families had a get-together at a local Mexican restaurant (oh, how I miss authentic Mexican food!!), and we’ve been friends ever since. I’ve moved around a lot since high school (from AZ back to UT, back to AZ, and then BACK to UT, and finally here to the Raleigh-Durham area), but we’ve always kept in touch throughout the years. Facebook has definitely made it easier to keep up with old friends.:)

It was so good to spend some time catching up with her when I had the chance to visit Phoenix a few weeks ago with my mom. It’s crazy to think about how much things have changed – we both have husbands, and families, and financial responsibilities, and and and… But she hasn’t changed THAT much – she’s still one of the most beautiful, approachable people I’ve ever met. And I’m still jealous of all her hair.;)

Janeal asked me to photograph her family while I was there. It was a whirlwind trip (babysitting twin nephews while trying to visit as many friends as possible is a lot of work), and we didn’t have time to scout out locations, so we decided to keep it simple and take advantage of the shady areas in her backyard.

I think everyone needs an up-to-date portrait with their spouse.

Her kiddos are equally beautiful. They all have the most amazing eye color!

Bret & Amanda Part II | Wilmington Wedding Photographers

Here are a few more of my favorite images from Bret & Amanda’s Wilmington wedding.

I thought the mosquitoes were going to eat me alive while I was trying to capture this shot of the rings, but I think it was worth it. I love the texture of the old bench.
Her cake decorator did SUCH an amazing job. I love the combination of the Tiffany blue and brown frosting with the fresh flowers.
The most amazing thing about the cake detail? The blue frosting is buttercream – not fondant! I can’t imagine trying to do all that intricate piping on fondant, let alone on buttercream! Amanda wanted to make sure the cake tasted as good as it looked, and she knew that a lot of people don’t enjoy the taste of fondant. I think she made a good choice – the cake tasted great!
One of my favorite wedding details were the gorgeous floral bouquets hanging from lanterns in the old oak trees. Such a fun vintage touch!

Bret & Amanda’s Live Oaks Wedding (Part 1) | Wilmington Wedding Photographer

Bret and Amanda live here in Raleigh, but they decided to have their wedding at a beautiful estate near the beach in Wilmington, NC. It was a gorgeous day for an outdoor wedding – the sun behaved perfectly, and the huge, moss-covered oak trees and deep blue ocean made the perfect backdrop for their ceremony.

Amanda was such a sweet, easygoing bride. She was absolutely radiant from head to toe. Something about her smile reminds me of Annie from “Father of the Bride.” From the moment my camera started clicking on her wedding day (and I peeked at a few of the images on the LCD screen), I knew her glowing happiness was going to translate into her wedding portraits.

Tiffany blue is one of my absolute favorite colors – I love the shoes she chose! Sensible enough for a wedding on the beach, but still perfectly pretty and feminine.
Amanda’s father and sister sang the most beautiful song for the first dance – I wish I had a recording to share, it was lovely!
Speaking of music, Amanda and her dad danced to one of my all-time favorite songs. It’s called “When You Come Back Down,” by Nickel Creek. If you’ve never heard it, you should head over to YouTube right now and look it up. I LOVE it, and it was the PERFECT choice for a daddy-daughter dance! I think the wedding guests probably thought I’d gone a little loopy from the heat – I was singing along the entire time.
I absolutely LOVE these images of Amanda’s grandparents. Just imagine a little elderly couple dancing their hearts out to Black Eyed Pea’s “I Gotta Feeling.” It was AWESOME! One of my favorite wedding moments EVER!

Pint-sized NC State Fan | Raleigh Baby Photographer

Baby “N’s” parents are big NC State fans, so it was no surprise when they asked if his 3-month portrait session could take place on campus. They wanted to make sure the bell tower was featured in some of his portraits. I’m not really attached to any particular college campus (even though I  grew up in Utah, I could never really get into the BYU vs. U of U debate), and from a strictly photographic standpoint, I love the NC State AND the UNC campus – sorry, I just can’t seem to pick a favorite.:)

The last time I saw this little man, he was a tiny newborn. I was sooooo surprised when I saw him at his 3-month session. He’s grown so much in just a few months. I love his sweet chubby cheeks, his super-blue eyes, and his yummy baby rolls. I’m so excited that he’s participating in the Milestones plan and I’ll have two more chances to document how much he grows and changes in his first year.

He was such a little trooper during our session. It was rainy, hot, and humid, but he didn’t complain at all. We had to wait for the rain to subside before we could photograph him near the bell tower, so we plopped him in a basket in some good light and he charmed us with his ever-changing expressions. It was tons of fun to watch him interact with his parents – they love him so much, and you can tell that he adores them as well.

Here’s his first series of portraits on the NC State campus. His next two sessions will take place there as well, so that the bell tower can be a running theme throughout his first year portraits.

I think he has the sweetest eyelashes…
