Malia is the creative mind behind a wonderful company called Bumbledoo. She was one of the first people I met after moving here to North Carolina. We were both members of a local mommy message board, and both attended a couple of the same events. I actually photographed her first baby in his very first Halloween costume.
If you’d like to read her account of our portrait session, you can find it here on her blog. I cried when I read what she wrote. My goal with each and every session I photograph is to create lasting memories for my subjects, and it’s the most amazing feeling when I find out I’ve managed to accomplish that goal.
Malia and I recently reconnected when I found out she was looking for a product photographer for her website. I love doing product photography – especially when it involves products for babies or children. I applied for the position of being her product photographer, she remembered the portrait I had created of her baby, and lucky for me, she decided we would be a good fit. We chatted a few times online and over the telephone, and quickly became friends. Malia is one of the nicest, most inspiring women I’ve been privileged to meet. Every time I talk to her, I’m amazed at how creative and driven she is. She’s building an amazing company that creates fabulous products for babies, children, and families. She’s incredibly confident without being overbearing, she takes pride in every item she creates and works hard to offer the best products on the market. I wouldn’t be surprised if her products are featured in popular baby magazines one of these days.
What does Bumbledoo offer? They offer cloth diapers, training pants, and a variety of other “green” and environmentally friendly products for the entire family. My favorite products by far are her toddler training pants. We’re using them at our house in our own potty training adventures, and absolutely love them! Definitely “greener” than Pull Ups, and not nearly as messy as attempting to skip training pants altogether. And my toddler adores the cute and colorful fabric choices!
Like I said, Malia and I have been doing a lot of chatting recently. During the course of one of our conversations, she mentioned that her one year wedding anniversary was quickly approaching. She also mentioned that they didn’t have a professional photographer document their wedding day, and it was something she still regrets to this day. Then she told me that the one gift she had asked her husband to give her for their anniversary was a family and couple’s portrait session. She asked if I would be willing to be their photographer. Of course I jumped at the chance – what an honor to help recreate one of the most important days of a couple’s life.
We met at the fountain where they were married. Prior to the session, she told me that her husband is a bit camera shy, and I promised I wouldn’t make them do anything cheesy – that really isn’t my style anyway.
Amazingly enough, her husband warmed up to the camera pretty quickly. After we did couple’s portraits, her two beautiful boys arrived and we did family portraits. We captured so many amazing images that day, it was really difficult for me to narrow down my favorites for this blog post. I know I’m sharing way too many images, but I just can’t narrow down my favorites any more than this.
We also created a few headshots for Malia to use for business purposes. This is one of my favorites – she has the best smile!
